"The Eighth Day" Project
Volunteers for Civil Bereaved Families
The “Yakir Li” association invites you to join the “Eighth Day” project – a unique initiative designed to support families who have experienced civilian bereavement immediately after the funeral. The project provides families with a warm envelope of emotional support, practical assistance and alleviation of loneliness, alongside building community support circles.
Who is the project intended for?
The project is designed to provide a response to families who have experienced civil bereavement, including:
Parents, siblings who have lost a loved one.
Grandparents, who are usually left outside the support circles but bear the pain of loss.
Supportive communities, who are interested in being there for the families and strengthening neighborhood ties and social involvement.
Who are the volunteers and what is their role?
Family Companions – “The Personal Address”
- Their role: to accompany families in the first weeks and months after the loss, to listen, to provide practical and emotional support, and to refer to professionals when necessary.
- Who is suitable? Sensitive people, with empathy and the ability to listen, who are interested in personal support.
Community Volunteers – “The Broader Envelope”
- Their role: to create a support network around families, lead community initiatives, organize activities and connect families with community members.
- Who is suitable? Community activists, people with organizational skills and social connections.
Volunteer professional experts – “Targeted assistance””
- Their role: To provide professional support in areas such as emotional therapy, financial counseling, or legal assistance to grieving families.
- Who is eligible? Professionals in the fields of therapy, economics, and law who are interested in contributing their experience.

Volunteer training and support process
- Professional training:
- Workshops for active listening and emotional support.

Ongoing support for volunteers:

Sharing and learning sessions:
- Discussion groups that allow volunteers to share experiences and acquire additional tools.
